Emotional support animals have become increasingly common over the past few years, but Tuesday the state Assembly passed a bill in an effort to change the requirements for ESAs.
Right now, making pets emotional support animals is as easy as going online and paying for a letter that gives them the title.
Legislators are looking to change the laws surrounding ESAs, so property owners are legally able to ask for written documentation from a licensed health care professional, verifying the need of the animal.
The bill now has to move through the Senate before heading to Gov. Tony Evers' desk to be written into law.
