It is important for us to share testimonials from folks traditionally "locked out" of housing to raise landlord and property manager awareness that with vetting, there are folks who have worked extraordinarily hard over time and deserve to "come home". We are very encouraged that there are property managers who partner with us understanding the struggle and come from a sincere desire to help those who are helping themselves. It is not only the individual renter you are assisting, if a family, you are changing the generations.
Testimonial from Jennifer, single mom-1 child:
"Having struggled with substance abuse as a twice-convicted felon, I have achieved six years of sobriety and relocated to be near family, initially residing with my parents. However, obtaining housing has been a significant challenge. Despite submitting applications to over 20 property management companies, I was consistently rejected due to my felony record. Regrettably, property managers disregarded my successful rehabilitation, lengthy employment, excellent credit score, letters of recommendation, and positive rental history from previous landlords and a co-signer.
Feeling disheartened, I reached out to the Eau Claire Tenant Landlord organization and was connected with Dr. Susan Wolfgram.
I am deeply grateful to Dr. Susan Wolfgram for instilling hope in me and reaffirming that individuals with a record and struggling with substance abuse can still access humanity. She confirmed that I was taking all necessary steps to secure housing and encouraged me to continue applying and she would provide support.
Following our meeting, Dr. Wolfgram provided me with a letter of recommendation, which ultimately enabled me to secure a rental property. Although I encountered several issues with my current property management company over the past eight months, Dr. Wolfgram and Amanda Babb provided invaluable assistance in addressing these concerns and exploring alternative housing options. I appreciated their supportive and non-judgmental approach, which made me feel valued and respected. They took the time to explain complex lease terms and ensured that I understood all aspects of my situation. Their efforts led to my placement in a new property in Chippewa, which was facilitated by a property management company that accepts their recommendations.
I highly recommend the Resource Center's services to anyone struggling to find housing due to criminal records or eviction. Their expertise and guidance are invaluable, and I encourage others to seek their help when navigating complex lease agreements or addressing ongoing housing issues. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to both of these ladies.
